Reason for the revision

Although sales to the automotive sector were sluggish, demand for semiconductors and electronic components and devices, mainly for AI and data centers, remained solid. Advance orders placed in anticipation of tungsten supply shortages and price revisions also helped sales exceed forecasts. Securing materials inventory early and planning production in line with demand kept the cost of sales below plan, and profit substantially exceeded forecasts. In the second half, the company expects materials prices to remain elevated and affect costs, and plans to revise prices in December.

The reasons the company gives

The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers.

Although sales to the automotive sector were sluggish, demand for semiconductors and electronic components, mainly for AI and data centers, remained solid. Advance orders placed in anticipation of tungsten supply shortages and price revisions also boosted sales. In addition, securing materials inventory early and planning production in line with demand kept the cost of sales below plan, resulting in profit exceeding forecasts. In the second half, costs are expected to rise due to persistently high materials prices, and a price revision is scheduled for December.
