「Previously, the company used the declining-balance method to depreciate property, plant and equipment (excluding leased assets), except that it used the straight-line method for buildings acquired on or after 1 April 1998 (excluding building improvements), and for building improvements and structures acquired on or after 1 April 2016. From the first quarter of the current fiscal year, however, the company has changed to the straight-line method. This change was made because, after considering the operating conditions of buildings, tools, equipment and fixtures, the company determined that allocating costs evenly over their useful lives using the straight-line method more appropriately reflects its actual management conditions. As a result of this change in depreciation method, depreciation expense for the cumulative first quarter decreased by ¥6.197 million, while operating income, ordinary income and profit before income taxes and other adjustments increased by ¥6.197 million.」
