In the construction-related products business, sales increased for building materials, civil engineering products, and overseas building materials, while sales declined for temporary construction and formwork products and structural equipment products. On the profit side, results were affected by changes in the sales mix and increases in selling, general and administrative expenses, including sales commissions and personnel expenses. In the other businesses, the reactionary decline in sales of high-value-added products and large projects, the deferral of public-sector projects into a different period, and the downturn in the truck and trailer market contributed to declines in both net sales and profit.
