The reasons the company gives
The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers.Net sales declined due to a decrease in customers' production volumes, among other factors. Operating profit and ordinary profit increased due in part to the recognition of a transfer pricing tax adjustment amount with the Company's U.S. subsidiary based on a mutual agreement between Japan and the United States. Extraordinary losses arose from the assessment of the recoverability of fixed assets in light of sluggish customer sales, the restructuring of the production system at the Company's operations in China, and the conservative estimation of the near-term profitability of affiliated companies, which led to the determination that a considerable period would be required for the value of the shares to recover.
