Factors Behind Changes in Business Performance

In the precious metals recycling business, recovery volumes of gold in the electronics field and palladium in the catalyst field increased, as did sales volumes of recycled precious metals with a price premium and precious metal products for retail customers. Recovery volumes declined in the jewelry and dental fields, but operating profit increased as a result of improved profitability, higher market share and improvements to the cost structure. In the North American refining-related business, inbound volumes of gold and silver feedstock and product sales volumes increased.
