Factors Behind Changes in Business Performance

Revenue decreased and profit increased year on year. The Company pursued active sales activities, cost reductions, productivity improvements and operational efficiency gains. The die-casting business reported higher revenue and profit due to the pass-through of higher aluminum prices, an increase in the yen-converted sales of overseas subsidiaries resulting from the weaker yen, cost reductions, productivity improvements and the pass-through of higher labor and energy costs. The housing equipment business reported lower revenue and profit due to higher procurement costs resulting from the appreciation of the Chinese yuan. The printing equipment business reported lower profit due to lower revenue resulting from weaker capital investment sentiment. Net income increased in part because gains on the sale of cross-shareholdings were recorded.

The reasons the company gives

The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers.

Amid continued increases in resource and energy prices and the impact of trade policies in various countries, the Company pursued active sales activities, cost reductions, productivity improvements and operational efficiency gains. In the die-casting business, the pass-through of higher aluminum, labor and energy costs, along with cost reductions and productivity improvements, contributed to higher profit. By contrast, profits in the housing equipment business were weighed down by higher procurement costs resulting from the appreciation of the Chinese yuan, while the printing equipment business saw lower revenue due to weaker capital investment sentiment. Net income increased in part because gains on the sale of cross-shareholdings were recorded.
