The reasons the company gives
The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers.Profitability in the agency sales business was pressured by carriers' revisions to commission and incentive terms, the maturing optical-fiber market and intensifying competition, and changes in the web customer-acquisition environment resulting from search-engine specification changes. In addition, higher selling, general and administrative expenses, including personnel and outsourcing costs associated with growth investments, also contributed to the decline in profit.
