Factors Behind Changes in Business Performance

In the Special Steel Business, declines in sales volumes of special alloys for automobiles and heat-resistant steel for overseas markets, as well as demand falling short of plan due to prolonged inventory adjustments in the semiconductor manufacturing equipment industry, contributed to the decline in net sales. Meanwhile, profit increased as a result of cost-reduction initiatives. In the Real Estate Leasing Business, both net sales and profit increased, mainly due to an increase in renovation work associated with tenant replacements at commercial facilities.

The reasons the company gives

The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers.

In the Special Steel Business, sales volumes of special alloys for automobiles and heat-resistant steel for overseas markets declined, while demand fell below plan due to prolonged inventory adjustments in the semiconductor manufacturing equipment industry. At the same time, profit increased as the Company promoted cost-reduction initiatives while investing in IT infrastructure upgrades and research and development. In the Real Estate Leasing Business, both net sales and profit increased, mainly due to an increase in renovation work associated with tenant replacements at commercial facilities. The decision to pay no year-end dividend and not to disclose earnings forecasts was based on the tender offer and the planned delisting thereafter.
