The reasons the company gives
The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers. In Japan, sales volumes of contract and merchant sales increased, while soaring prices for zinc and other materials put pressure on profit. Overseas, sales volumes at the Taiwanese subsidiary declined, but profit increased because of the rebound from the significant impact of tariffs under the Trump administration in the year-earlier period. For the full-year forecast, the company cited expectations that the situation would continue to be affected by tensions in the Middle East, soaring energy and transportation costs, sluggish demand growth in the construction and automotive industries, and elevated procurement costs for zinc, paint and thinner, among other materials.
