The reasons the company gives
The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers.Raw material and energy prices remained high, the yen remained weak, and political and economic uncertainty persisted overseas. Domestic crude steel production and demand for refractories also declined. By profit impact, the factors cited were changes in the sales mix in Japan, lower demand for refractories and the impact of tariff policies in North America, and lower demand for refractories in Asia. At the same time, the Company pursued quality improvements, productivity enhancements and cost reductions.
