The reasons the company gives
The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers.Robust demand continued in the Display business, keeping net sales at about the same level as in the previous year. Operating profit declined due to higher costs associated with the conversion to all-electric melting facilities and scheduled repairs, as well as costs for commissioning facilities at a Malaysian subsidiary. Ordinary income increased due to foreign exchange gains arising from the revaluation of receivables and payables related to borrowings by overseas subsidiaries. Net income attributable to owners of the parent increased due mainly to gains on sales of investment securities associated with the reduction of cross-shareholdings.
