Industrial Materials posted higher sales and profit due to the recovery in orders for automotive-related and housing-equipment-related components in Japan and increased demand for components used in semiconductor manufacturing equipment. Coated Fabric Products posted lower sales and an operating loss as strong sales of materials for electrical and electronic applications and other products were offset by lower orders for defense-related products and marine equipment. Sports Equipment posted lower profit despite strong sales of new products, due to inventory adjustments in North America, sluggish sales of core shoes, and higher procurement prices resulting from the weaker yen and other factors.
