Factors included higher crude oil prices, a prolonged timing lag in crude oil costs due to increased sailing days, and a larger positive time-lag effect resulting from the rise in crude oil prices from March onward. In basic chemicals, the factors included a positive inventory impact; in high-performance materials, a wider spread due to higher naphtha prices and the absence of one-off gains; in power, scheduled maintenance and power plant trouble; and in resources, an increase in condensate volumes.
