Items this document does not state (18)
These are items the company does not state in this document. We do not leave them blank, nor fill them in from other sources or by inference.
The reasons the company gives
The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers. In the agricultural chemicals business, domestic sales and overseas sales, including in India and Brazil, increased, with the weaker yen also contributing. Operating profit benefited from higher sales, improved profit margins and a lower fixed-cost ratio resulting from increased production volume. Ordinary profit was boosted by foreign exchange gains, while net income was supported by gains on the sale of investment securities. Meanwhile, the fine chemicals business was affected by fluctuations in customer demand, demand being pushed back to later periods and inventory adjustments, as well as higher raw material and heavy oil prices and price competition at the Chinese subsidiary.
