Sales in the agrochemicals business remained strong, with market development activities, increased sales of rice paddy products, horticultural products and overseas products, and the weaker yen contributing to higher revenue. Profit in the agrochemicals business increased on higher revenue and improved profit margins. Ordinary profit increased due to foreign exchange gains, while quarterly net income attributable to owners of the parent increased due to the recognition of gains on the sale of investment securities. Meanwhile, the fine chemicals business posted lower revenue and profit due to demand fluctuations, delays in the timing of demand, inventory adjustments, higher raw material and heavy oil prices, and price competition at its Chinese subsidiary.
