In the Chemicals business, revenue increased due to advance orders for ultraviolet absorbers and stronger sales efforts, which offset the decline in contract-manufactured products and other items. In the Home Products business, revenue declined due to lower sales of wood preservatives and a decrease in construction orders. Operating profit declined because the surge in raw material prices could not be sufficiently offset through price increases, and selling, general and administrative expenses increased, including higher depreciation expenses resulting from the introduction of systems. Ordinary profit increased as costs related to the suspension of production decreased by ¥48 million year on year.

The reasons the company gives
The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers.Revenue increased as there was no significant decline in orders and advance orders for core products contributed to sales. However, the sharp rise in raw material prices could not be sufficiently offset through price increases, while selling, general and administrative expenses also increased due to higher depreciation expenses associated with the introduction of systems.
