Reason for the revision

Sales in Chinese e-commerce stagnated due to tensions in Japan-China relations and other factors, while inbound sales at directly operated stores also fell below expectations as the number of visitors to Japan declined. Sales stagnation at consolidated subsidiaries following price revisions and other measures, along with higher advertising and promotional expenses and commissions paid due to intensifying competition in Chinese e-commerce, also had an impact. Foreign exchange gains are expected, but are not expected to fully offset the shortfall in operating profit.

The reasons the company gives

The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers.

Sales in Chinese e-commerce stagnated amid tensions in Japan-China relations and other factors, while inbound sales at directly operated stores also fell below expectations due to a decline in the number of visitors to Japan from China. In addition, subsidiary sales stagnated following price revisions and other measures in response to the weaker yen, while advertising and promotional expenses and commissions paid rose amid intensifying competition in Chinese e-commerce. Foreign exchange gains are also expected, but are not expected to fully offset the shortfall in operating profit.
