Factors Behind Changes in Business Performance

Revenue increased due to shipments of fragrance products for beverages, fine fragrances, home care and synthetic fragrance intermediates, as well as the resumption of shipments to major customers. However, lower revenue and a deterioration in the cost ratio at overseas subsidiaries, lower revenue at the Company and higher SG&A expenses associated with the introduction of a new core system affected profit.

The reasons the company gives

The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers.

In the Flavor segment, fragrance products for beverages remained firm. In the Fragrance segment, sales to the fine-fragrance market by the French subsidiary and to the home-care market by the Singapore subsidiary were strong. Profit was weighed down by lower revenue and a deterioration in the cost ratio at overseas subsidiaries in the Aroma Ingredients segment, lower revenue at the Company in the Fine Chemicals segment, and higher SG&A expenses in Europe associated with the introduction of a new core system.
