The reasons the company gives
The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers.Net sales and operating income increased due to securing students from the lower elementary grades through nationwide open academic proficiency tests, providing a diverse range of educational services, reducing labor costs through the use of part-time instructors, reducing rent and lease expenses through the relocation and closure of schools, and producing teaching materials in-house. Net income, however, declined because substantial scrap-and-build costs were incurred in connection with the optimal allocation of schools, particularly the provision expense for losses from school relocations and closures.
