The reasons the company gives
The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers. As restructuring procedures for the UK business progressed, the Company recognized investments that had not been recorded as losses in prior fiscal years as losses on the liquidation of an affiliated company. In addition, the Company recognized an extraordinary loss and a deferred tax benefit following the sale of all shares in its Singapore business and a review of the tax treatment of an impairment loss on shares in its UK subsidiary. The earnings forecast was revised because the extraordinary loss was lower than initially projected and recognition of the deferred tax benefit was brought forward from the fourth quarter to the second quarter.
