Reason for the revision

The inks, chemicals and processed products businesses performed solidly, and net sales and profit exceeded the initial plan as a result of strengthened sales, the acquisition of new customers and a shift toward high-value-added products. While assuming that the impact of surging raw material prices and price revisions by suppliers will continue in the second half, the forecasts have been revised upward based on the earnings outlook through the interim period and the business environment.

The reasons the company gives

The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers.

In the inks business, offset inks exceeded plan as a result of strengthened sales to key customers and the acquisition of new customers. Functional inks and coating agents, as well as gravure inks for medical packaging, also performed well. In the chemicals business, profitability improved due to market conditions in mobility applications, market-share expansion and a shift toward high-value-added products, while the processed products business also remained solid. Based on these developments, the interim-period and full-year forecasts have been revised upward, while assuming that surging raw material prices and price revisions by suppliers will continue in the second half.
