The reasons the company gives
The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers. In the results to date, the main factors behind the increase in profit were a higher formulated-product ratio, lower valuation losses on long-outstanding inventory, lower research and development expenses, and lower SG&A expenses resulting from the thorough implementation of Smart Spending. The upward revision to the full-year forecasts was attributed to the higher formulated-product ratio, lower-than-expected depreciation and amortization expenses following a change in accounting policy, and lower-than-expected research and development expenses due to revisions to the development plan and timing shifts in bioequivalence studies.
