The reasons the company gives

The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers.

Net sales increased on growth in overseas sales to China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, among other markets, while operating income declined due to higher advertising and promotion expenses related to overseas marketing initiatives. Ordinary income increased because no foreign exchange loss was recorded, unlike in the same period of the previous year, and because interest income and foreign exchange gains were recognized. Interim net income attributable to owners of the parent declined due to the absence of the ¥347 million gain on the sale of investment securities and the ¥14 million compensation received recorded in the same period of the previous year.
