Factors Behind Changes in Business Performance

In the Pharmaceuticals business, revenue remained sluggish due to supply shortages of Seirogan, the resumption of supplies of competing products and weaker inbound demand. In the Infection Control business, revenue declined due to a pullback from the increase in demand caused by the influenza outbreak in the same period of the previous year. Gross profit declined due to higher costs associated with strengthening the supply system for the Pharmaceuticals business, while selling, general and administrative expenses decreased, mainly due to lower advertising and promotional expenses in the Infection Control business.
