The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers.The decision to discontinue development for obesity was based on a comprehensive evaluation of the data, including the interim analysis results from the Phase II GYMINDA study, which indicated that achieving the prespecified clinically meaningful weight loss would be difficult. For SMA, Chugai identified an opportunity to resume development based on the subcutaneous route of administration, safety profile, pharmacodynamics, clinical signals and improvements to the Phase III trial design.
