The reasons the company gives

The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers.

Sales volume increased as demand grew for high-value-added products, particularly semiconductor- and electronic component-related materials, as well as demand temporarily increased due to supply disruptions affecting imported products amid the situation in the Middle East. In addition, there was a time lag before the impact of higher raw material prices was reflected in cost of sales. The decrease in net income was mainly due to the absence of tax expenses (benefits), including current and deferred income taxes, recorded in the same period of the previous year.
