The reasons the company gives
The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers. In functional products, profit was weighed down by the reactionary decline in spot contract manufacturing projects for pharmaceutical intermediates, lower overseas sales of phospholipids for pharmaceutical use, and the deferral to the second half of the pass-through of higher raw material costs into selling prices. In contrast, environmental and hygiene products contributed to higher revenue and profit through selling price revisions and expanded sales in the food business and medical and nursing care sectors. Interim net income attributable to owners of the parent increased due to the recognition of gains on sales of investment securities.
