The reasons the company gives
The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers. In addition to the earnings contribution from reviewing unprofitable businesses and selling owned assets, productivity improvements and fixed-cost reductions, a temporary increase in sales volumes due to concerns over supply, and appropriate price revisions have progressed faster than expected. As a result, interim earnings are expected to exceed the previous forecast. The full-year forecast has been left unchanged in light of demand being brought forward into the first half and uncertainty surrounding raw material and fuel prices, foreign exchange rates and the demand environment due to the situation in the Middle East and other factors.
