The reasons the company gives
The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers. The Piping Systems business reported higher revenue due to expanded demand from inventory buildup in light of the situation in the Middle East, a recovery in the South Korean market driven by stronger memory demand, and the capture of investment demand related to the U.S. electronics industry. The Plastics business reported lower profit due to higher raw material prices and the reaction to high-margin projects in the year-earlier period. The Water Treatment and Resource Development business reported lower revenue and profit due to a decrease in large-scale projects, the postponement of construction starts and delays in construction progress.
