Factors Behind Changes in Business Performance

Revenue declined due to weak sales of nylon polymers, caprolactam and other products, and the exclusion of the steelmaking business from the scope of consolidation, despite the contribution from the acquisition of the Urethane Systems business. Operating profit increased due to lower depreciation and amortization resulting from the business structure reform-related impairment loss recorded in the previous fiscal year, the absence of a periodic maintenance shutdown at the ammonia plant, and lower elastomer raw material prices. Net income attributable to owners of the parent increased because the extraordinary losses related to business structure reform recorded in the previous fiscal year did not recur in the current fiscal year.

The reasons the company gives

The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers.

Revenue declined despite the contribution from the acquisition of the Urethane Systems business, due to weak sales of nylon polymers, caprolactam and other products, as well as the exclusion of the steelmaking business from the scope of consolidation. Operating profit increased due to lower depreciation and amortization resulting from the impairment loss recorded in the previous fiscal year, the absence of the periodic maintenance shutdown conducted every other year, and lower elastomer raw material prices. Net income was significantly boosted by the absence in the current fiscal year of the extraordinary losses related to business structure reform recorded in the previous fiscal year.
