Summary of Financial Results for the Second Quarter (Interim Period) of the Fiscal Year Ending March 2027 [IFRS]

For the interim period, revenue and operating profit exceeded the year-earlier period, and the full-year earnings forecast was revised upward. However, profit for the interim period attributable to owners of the parent declined due to the reversal of the gain on the sale of discontinued operations recorded in the previous year, and the policy was changed to continue the needle coke and pitch coke business that had been scheduled for withdrawal.

Factors Behind Changes in Business Performance

Revenue increased due to higher selling prices, increased sales volumes, foreign exchange effects, and acquisitions and consolidation in the industrial gases business and other areas. Core operating profit increased due to improved trading margins resulting from higher selling prices and market conditions, increased sales volumes for semiconductor-related products and carbon fiber composite parts, price management, cost reductions, and improved inventory valuation gains and losses. Profit for the interim period attributable to owners of the parent declined, mainly because the profit from discontinued operations recorded in the year-earlier period was no longer present.
