「The company and its domestic consolidated subsidiaries had traditionally used the declining-balance method to depreciate tangible fixed assets, primarily. From the current first quarter of the consolidated fiscal year, they changed to the straight-line method. This change was made because, after reviewing the actual use of production facilities in light of future capital investment plans, the company determined that depreciating the assets evenly over their useful lives would provide a more reasonable allocation of costs, given the expected long-term and stable operation and generation of earnings. The change was also made to standardize the accounting treatment with that of overseas consolidated subsidiaries using the straight-line method.」

As a result, operating income, ordinary income and quarterly net income before income taxes increased by ¥36 million each in the current quarter.
