The reasons the company gives
The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers.Revenue increased as a substantial increase in electronic ceramic materials more than offset declines in battery materials, phosphine derivatives and phosphorus products. Operating income declined due to fluctuations in market prices for raw materials used in battery materials and the time lag in passing those changes through to selling prices, the absence of the benefit from the decrease in inventory valuation losses incurred in the previous fiscal year, and changes in the sales mix. Net income increased due to extraordinary gains, including a gain on the sale of fixed assets of ¥504 million and a gain on the sale of investment securities of ¥1,029 million.
