The reasons the company gives
The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers. The Electronic Materials and Chemicals business performed well in surfactants, piezoelectric materials and conductive polymer agents. In the Functional Materials business, fine-particle products used as cosmetic ingredients performed poorly, while depreciation expenses increased following the expansion of manufacturing facilities. In the titanium dioxide business, the operating environment deteriorated due to aggressive sales efforts by overseas competitors, including those in China, and declining domestic demand, resulting in the recognition of an impairment loss of ¥3,170 million.
