Factors Behind Changes in Business Performance

Net sales increased due to the initial consolidation of subsidiaries and the effect of translating the financial statements of overseas subsidiaries at a weaker yen. In the domestic business, operating profit was maintained through cost reductions and product price revisions despite higher raw material, fuel and personnel costs. In the overseas business, profits declined due to the delayed recovery of the Australian economy affecting Opal, as well as intensified competition and softer product market conditions at Nippon Dynawave Packaging.

The reasons the company gives

The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers.

Net sales increased due to the initial consolidation of subsidiaries and the effect of translating the financial statements of overseas subsidiaries at a weaker yen. Although the domestic business was affected by higher raw material, fuel and personnel costs, cost reductions and product price revisions had a positive effect. In the overseas business, profits declined due to the delayed recovery of the Australian economy affecting Opal and softer product market conditions resulting from intensified competition at Nippon Dynawave Packaging. The full-year forecast has been left undecided because the effects of the tank collapse at Nippon Dynawave Packaging and the damage to the Yatsushiro Plant caused by the Kumamoto Earthquake cannot be reasonably calculated.
