In the Automotive Parts Business, net sales increased due to growth in value-added products, the impact of foreign currency translation, strong sales of vehicles ordered by Chinese local manufacturers, and higher order volumes in Europe. Earnings benefited from cost recovery, efficiency initiatives, fixed-cost controls, the consolidation of locations and restructuring of the organizational structure, and improvements in losses on new products. In the Security Equipment Business, net sales increased due to the end of the reactionary decline in housing starts and increased orders for housing-related products, electric locks, and molded products. Profit in the Japan business, however, declined due to the impact of higher material costs and higher import prices resulting from yen depreciation.
