The reasons the company gives
The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers.During the fiscal year, profit growth in the pharmaceuticals business and steady performance in the domestic housing business more than offset profit declines in the Essential Chemicals business caused by scheduled maintenance shutdowns and inventory receipt and issue variances. For the next fiscal year, the company expects higher sales volumes of its core products and a recovery in North American housing demand, while factoring in increases in research and development expenses, fixed and material costs, and raw material prices.
