The reasons the company gives
The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers. The increase in first-quarter revenue was driven by strong sales of electric-assist bicycles and children's bicycles, as well as higher sales of parts, repairs, and maintenance services. Operating profit declined because, despite efforts to reduce costs, the weaker yen worsened the impact of costs and product mix, while expenses also increased due to wage increases, front-loaded investments in employee development, and higher fixed costs associated with the increase in the number of stores.
