Factors Behind Changes in Business Performance

Construction to optimize the production system at the Kitakyushu site was completed approximately 1 month ahead of schedule, and the transition to a production system using 2 sound furnace groups increased production by more than 20% from the first quarter and substantially reduced processing costs per tonne. The Fuel and Resource Recycling business reported lower profit because of a decline in fuel-related sales volumes and the loss of spot projects, while the Comprehensive Engineering business reported higher profit because of strong orders for the Tea Meister Mill and a recovery in AI-related demand.

The reasons the company gives

The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers.

The completion of construction to optimize the production system at the Kitakyushu site was brought forward, and the transition to a production system using 2 sound furnace groups led to increased production and a substantial reduction in processing costs per tonne. In the Fuel and Resource Recycling business, lower fuel-related sales volumes resulting from customers changing their businesses and the loss of spot projects from the previous fiscal year were factors behind the decline in profit, while in the Comprehensive Engineering business, strong orders for the Tea Meister Mill and a recovery in AI-related demand contributed to higher profit.
