Factors Behind Changes in Business Performance

Losses improved through the closure of unprofitable stores, stronger sales of jewelry and bullion products, expanded sales of vintage products, a review of the product mix, and control of selling, general and administrative expenses, particularly personnel expenses. Net sales decreased due to the decline in the number of stores and the slowdown in the pace of bullion-product sales as the rise in gold prices eased in the second half.

The reasons the company gives

The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers.

Profitability improved through the closure of unprofitable stores as part of structural reforms, stronger sales of jewelry and bullion products, expanded sales of vintage products, a review of the product mix, and control of selling, general and administrative expenses, particularly personnel expenses. On the other hand, the decline in the number of stores and the slowdown in the pace of bullion-product sales as the rise in gold prices eased in the second half reduced net sales.
