The reasons the company gives
The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers. In the merchandise business, the Company pursued area strategies, expanded its fan base and focused on new growth areas. In the store operations business, it advanced menu initiatives, personnel development, workplace improvements and new store openings. Revenue also benefited from increased media exposure. On the profit side, raw material prices remained high, while temporary relocation costs associated with the launch of the new factory, depreciation, personnel expenses, promotional expenses, logistics costs and manufacturing outsourcing costs at overseas subsidiaries increased. However, the strong revenue performance improved the operating profit margin. The decline in net income was due to a gain on the sale of property, plant and equipment resulting from the sale of the former factory recorded in the same quarter of the previous year.
