Factors Behind Changes in Business Performance

Although net sales remained solid, production costs increased more than expected due to soaring raw material prices, mainly naphtha-based materials, resulting from the prolonged situation in the Middle East, as well as the yen's continued depreciation against other currencies. In the chilled foods segment, higher depreciation and amortization expenses associated with the start-up of a new plant also contributed to the segment loss.
