In the alcoholic beverages business, profit increased by ¥240 million from higher gross profit due to increased revenue, by ¥200 million from lower manufacturing expenses such as repair costs, and by ¥157 million from the effects of product mix and price revisions, among other factors. These gains were partly offset by a ¥60 million increase in cost of sales due to higher raw material costs and a ¥140 million increase in selling, general and administrative expenses, including freight and storage costs. In the enzyme pharmaceuticals business, profit increased due to higher exports of enzymes and increased contract fermentation.
