In the hotel business, results benefited from revenue contributions from acquired hotels, solid occupancy rates and average room rates at domestic luxury hotels, and revenue management and cost control at U.S. hotels. In the wedding business, the number of ceremonies held declined because venues were closed due to store closures and major renovations, while higher personnel expenses, energy costs and raw material prices also weighed on profit. The change from a foreign exchange loss to a foreign exchange gain and the absence of special gains recognized in the prior-year period also affected changes in profit.

The reasons the company gives
The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers. In the hotel business, revenue contributions from acquired hotels and occupancy rates and average room rates at domestic luxury hotels remained solid. In the wedding business, the number of ceremonies held declined because venues were closed due to store closures and major renovations, while operating profit decreased due to higher personnel expenses and other costs. Ordinary profit increased as the foreign exchange loss of ¥968 million in the prior-year period turned into a foreign exchange gain of ¥274 million in the current period. Net income decreased due to the absence of the gain on the step acquisition of ¥1,259 million and gain on bargain purchase of ¥1,695 million recognized in the prior-year period.
