Revenue increased due to growth in the number of students enrolled in the individual instruction division, an increase in benefits associated with revisions to government-set prices, an increase in tenants, higher average spending per customer and steady trends in the number of dinner customers. This was offset by weak student recruitment in the class instruction division, adjustments to the timing of new student admissions at the Japanese-language school, increased personnel expenses in response to the growth in student numbers and improvements in employee compensation, higher rent due to an increase in the number of classrooms, and increased expenses for building repairs.

The reasons the company gives
The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers.Revenue increased due to growth in the number of students enrolled in the individual instruction division, an increase in benefits associated with revisions to government-set prices, and an increase in tenants. Conversely, weak student recruitment in the class instruction division and adjustments to the timing of new student admissions at the Japanese-language school were factors behind the decline in revenue. Personnel expenses increased in response to the growth in student numbers and improvements in employee compensation, as did rent due to an increase in the number of classrooms in the Kanto region and building repair expenses.
