The reasons the company gives
The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers. In the construction business, revenue declined because the order backlog at the beginning of the fiscal year was ¥538 million lower than at the beginning of the previous fiscal year, and the timing of construction starts was shifted to the fourth quarter or later. In the real estate business, revenue increased due to newly acquired rental properties, but one-time costs associated with the acquisitions weighed on profit. Overall, the impact of lower revenue was substantial, and the gross profit margin declined from 21.8% in the same period of the previous fiscal year to 19.1%.
