「The beet sugar-related facilities have shown indications of impairment because producers' willingness to plant sugar beets has declined and the planted area has continued to decrease, due to factors including the aging of producers, labor shortages, soaring fertilizer prices and lower revenue resulting from the low sugar content of sugar beets harvested in fiscal 2023. Manufacturing costs have also increased because of unstable raw material quality caused by adverse weather in recent years and higher prices for auxiliary materials due in part to the situation in Ukraine, resulting in continuing operating losses.」
