The reasons the company gives
The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers. In the interim period, increased shipments resulting from stronger U.S. production capacity in the overseas milling business, foreign exchange translation effects, and increased shipments in the yeast, health and biotechnology businesses contributed to higher revenue and operating profit. On the other hand, higher costs due to the situation in the Middle East, lower sales in the prepared and ready-to-eat foods businesses due to adverse weather, and lower equity-method investment gains put downward pressure on profit. The full-year revenue forecast was revised because the yen is trending weaker than initially forecast and wheat prices have surged.
