The reasons the company gives
The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers.Revenue increased due to higher shipments resulting from strengthened production capacity in the United States within the overseas milling business, as well as the impact of foreign exchange translation. Although shipments increased, operating profit and ordinary profit declined due to lower sales in the prepared foods and deli business, the absence of the previous year's large-scale engineering project, and higher costs stemming from the situation in the Middle East. Net profit declined because gains on the sale of investment securities held for policy purposes were lower than in the previous year, among other factors.
