Factors Behind Changes in Business Performance

In Japan, results exceeded the plan due to orders for large-scale highway repair work and power-related construction in Hokkaido, despite delays in the start of construction and intensifying competition for orders. In the United States, the Company lost an order for environmental protection work at an aging dam, but the fourth train of the LNG refining plant site ground-improvement project was ordered ahead of schedule. Net sales decreased because most of the U.S. construction work consisted of detailed design and test construction, while operating income decreased due to lower net sales. Ordinary income increased due to dividend income received and foreign exchange gains, while net income increased due to gains on the sale of investment securities.

The reasons the company gives

The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers.

At the U.S. subsidiary, most of the LNG refining plant site ground-improvement work, which made a significant contribution to results in the previous fiscal year, consisted of detailed design and test construction, resulting in net sales below the previous fiscal year's level. Operating income decreased due to lower net sales at certain domestic branches and the U.S. subsidiary. Ordinary income increased due to dividend income received and foreign exchange gains, while net income increased due to gains on the sale of investment securities.
